I must say that it has been a pretty awesome last few weeks for Kate and I as well as our friends. And I don’t mean it because we got to go on an awesome vacation or because we had two Thanksgiving dinners, but because there has been some pretty exciting news in our lives.
No, we’re not having a baby. I just want to say that before I start getting hysterical calls from my mom.
Actually, our friends En and Em just had their second daughter, baby A. Good job, Em!!! And congratulations to En as well for his contribution. She couldn’t have done it without you.
Bringing a new member to the family is by far the most amazing thing that could happen, but there were other things that happened to us that were somewhat cool.
A Change of Pace
It all started when we found out that our friend and co-worker K-to-the-J-to-the-M got a new job. That’s very exciting news because it is a promotion and she will be getting out of the lab, which is what she wanted. She’s still going to be in the same building and on the same floor so I still get to see her, but now she’s going to be auditing what we do… wait, is she my enemy now?
Anyways, so far we still like her since she hasn’t started auditing yet.
Not only did K-to-the-J-to-the-M got a new job, but a few weeks later Kate got a new job as well!!!
Kate’s job is also exciting because she got a raise, which means, WE got a raise.
Kate’s new job also takes her out of the lab, which is something she also wanted as part of her long term goal. The new job is in the same company, but now she’s going to be in a different building. We’re still going to commute together but we won’t see each other at work as much as we do now. I’m going to miss her a little, but I’ll survive.
That same day Kate’s brother also got a promotion and a nice raise at his job.
But Wait, There’s More!!!
On Monday, I went to the work cafeteria for lunch because we just hired a new girl and I had to show her around. While we were there having lunch, a lady approached us asking us if we carpool to work. I carpool with Kate so I raised my hand.
She thanked me for carpooling and asked me if I wanted to enter a raffle to win a gas card. Sure, why not.
We finished eating our lunch and went back to our office. Not even five minutes after I sat down at my desk, my office phone started ringing. At first I ignored the call because it was an outside number. The only outside numbers that call my office (besides my mom) are salespeople asking if we have time to talk about our lab supply needs. A few minutes later the phone started ringing again from the same number so I decided to pick it up.
The person on the phone told me that I won the raffle for the gas card and asked if I wanted it delivered to me or if I wanted to pick it up at the cafeteria. I decided to take the walk.
I thought it was going to be a $25 gas card but when I got there they told me I won $100!!!
With the current gas prices that is three tanks of gas for me.
Even though there is a new baby and two new jobs in our circle of friends, those things can’t compare to my $100 gas card… Which font conveys sarcasm?
And the cool thing is that these are just things that happened in the last few weeks, but this year was an awesome year overall and it deserves a post all on its own.
