Wait, what is this? My fingers actually work and are typing words and stuff?!
I haven’t written anything for this blog since August, now that’s a long time. You might be wondering if it was because I had broken fingers or went to live in a place where there’s no internet or computer for me to write a post. Or maybe it was because I was so busy that I just didn’t have time to write something.
And you would be right. I woke up one day in a desolate island with no computer, phone, or internet, and where I was too busy building a shelter, hunting, and learning how to make fire. Learning how to make fire took so much effort that my fingers bled and broke off, thus not allowing me to write a post.
No? But they won’t know that I’m lying… okay, fine.
Kate said I shouldn’t lie. Here’s what really happened… nothing, I was just lazy. There, I said it. I would much rather binge on Netflix than write a post. There’s just so much good stuff to watch on Netflix. Did you see “Making a Murderer” yet? It’s good. It’s about Steven Avery, who spent 18 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and then when DNA testing exonerated him he sued his county’s Sheriff’s department. That’s when all hell broke loose. Anyways, you should watch it.
Back to why I didn’t write since August.
I wasn’t completely lazy. It started when things got real busy at work and I was also looking for a new job. Work, work, work, and then come home and fill out job applications and tailor resumes for different jobs. Job searching is exhausting.
The good news is that I found a new job!
I’m still in the same company and still doing Analytical Chemistry, but I’m in a new department and I’m working with my really good friend, and the person that trained me when I first joined the company right after school, Dr. Death. Dun-dun-duuun!
Okay, that’s not his real name and it’s not as morbid as you might think. He got that name because he was in charge of testing all the cyanide samples that came into our lab, and since those samples could potentially be dangerous, a co-worker named him Dr. Death.
With the new job, came better pay and a much happier me.
What Have I been Doing?
I didn’t just sit on the couch and watched Netflix all day (at least not every day). I tried to meet some of the goals that I set for myself for 2015.
1. Pay off my student loans – This I accomplished and officially became debt free, wha-what!!! I also fully funded my emergency fund and now have to re-assess what to do with my savings (save for a house or invest?). I guess that’s a good problem to have.
2. Exercise at least three times per week – Hahahahaah, right! Fail!!! I’m pretty sure I worked out every week, but not three times every week. Exercise is definitely my nemesis… and it’s winning.
3. Climb at least one level higher – I’m not so sure about this one. I did climb two problems one level higher, but I’m not sure they were a true V5. And then I injured my finger and had to take a few months off. But I am back at the climbing gym weekly. There’s always next year.
4. Read at least 12 books this year – Now this one I blew out of the park. I not only read 12 books this year, but I kept reading and ended up reading 30 books in total!!! I was a reading machine! And if we count reading as exercise for the mind, which I do, then I probably met the exercise goal set above.
I haven’t thought of any goals for next year and I’m not so sure that I will. I might just let life happen. Kate just said that’s what hippies and lazy people say, and I’m not a hippie. I guess I will be setting some goals and will let you know when they’re ready.
But for now, Happy 2015-S and may the next year fill your lives with love and happiness.
